Quite likely, you're searching the internet and other media sources to find out the latest about this historic midwest/Ohio valley winter storm and its impacts. Unfortunately, places like Indianapolis will be suffering from potentially long-lasting power outages. Chicago will be looking at 'shut-down' conditions. Oklahoma City, sweet spot of Tornado Alley, will be dealing with the aftermath of blizzard conditions. Keep checking the news and other outlets because this is a very serious situation.
Now, I would like to share a story that happened on this date in 1951. Yes, a historic ice storm, perhaps one of the worst ice storms ever to hit the United States. From Texas to Pennsylvania, ice glaze some 4 inches thick caused many deaths and serious injuries while disrupting communications and other infrastructure for up to 10 days.
I invite you to review this site from the National Weather Service here in Louisville concerning the Top Ten Winter Weather events for Southern Indiana and Central Kentucky. The 1951 event came in at number 2.

Check it out and we'll compare that event to the one that is occurring in Indiana and other parts of the midwest.
Have a good evening.
